BYOD – Do you have a Written Policy?

Bring your own device (BYOD) policies are becoming a more frequent topic of discussion when reviewing current IT & Documentation needs with our clients. Staff are bringing their devices to the workplace more and more frequently, and connecting (When possible) to your environments. Why not work with that reality instead of fight it?

Of course, BYOD policies and their implementation do come with some challenges. Well written policies protect both the Company and their Staff and have well defined loss and termination clauses. The key is to start with some thoughtful planning, craft a clear BYOD policy, and ENFORCE it. Here are some topics to get you started!

  • Get buy-in from all levels of staff
  • Determine which devices will be supported
  • Address network and security concerns
  • Define what data is to be accessible
  • Provide for periodic re-education and re-adoption
  • Incorporate digital citizenship
  • Include an Acceptable Use Policy

Remember to start with a plan that your IT provider can manage and both you and your staff can abide. Review your plan annually as it relates to changes in your environment, future IT changes, and current devices and solutions in the market.

As always, we are here to get you on the right path!
